Make these pretty colourful homemade chalks
and your kids will love drawing with them!
Essentials
For this DIY, you will need:
- our free template that you can download below
- greaseproof paper sheets
- thick paper sheets (like some thinner cardboard)
- glue
- paint
- plaster
- a marker or a big pencil
- ziploc bags
- tape
- a box
- and… scissors
Steps

Step 1: cut some strips of paper lengthwise.2
Step 2: wrap your paper around your marker or pen.3
Step 3: cut off the excess paper4
Step 4: tape your paper roll into a tube.5
Step 5: close one end of the tube with some scotch tape.6
Step 6: make as many rolls as the desired number of chalks. Fit the rolls into a box so that they can stand up straight.7
Step 7: cut some greaseproof paper into strips (and make them longer than the rolls). Then, cut them in half.8
Step 8: wrap your greaseproof paper piece to make it into a tube.9
Step 9: insert the greaseproof paper tube into the paper tubes. The greaseproof paper must be a taller.10
Step 10: repeat these steps for all of the other paper rolls.11
Step 11: put a ziploc bag into a bowl. Add some paint diluted with a little water inside.12
Step 12: add a mix of plaster and water (1 dose of plaster for 1 dose of water). Add a little plaster or water to make a consistent mix.13
Step 13: mix until it is perfectly homogeneous.14
Step 14: close up the bag and cut an edge off.15
Step 15: fill in the first tube with the mix you've just made.16
Step 16: repeat this step to make other colours. Wait until your chalks are hard and dry.17
Step 17: take the chalks out of their tubes and... tada!18
Step 18: print and cut out the box template.19
Step 19: fold along the dotted lines.20
Step 20: add some glue onto the flaps and assemble the box.21
Step 21: your box is ready!22
Step 22: put the chalks in the box and you're ready to play!
