Essentials
For this DIY, you will need:
For a 60 cm garland:
- 4 wooden beads (around 4 cm in diameter)
- 20 wooden beads (around 2.5 cm in diameter)
- string
- a marker
- a pair of scissors
- a little light grey acrylic paint can
- a paintbrush
- some tape (or masking tape)
- … and a chopstick!
For the little pockets
- 8 sheets of white paper
- some masking tape or a few stickers
- 24 little suprises
- a ruler
- a pencil
- … and a hole punch!
Steps

Step 1: place masking tape on half of the wooden beads, by taking the centre of the beads' holes as a reference.2
Step 2: paint the other half of the bead with acrylic paint.3
Step 3: when the paint is dry, peel gently the masking tape off.4
Step 4: with the marker, write the numbers 5 - 10 - 15 - 20 on the bigger beads. Write the other numbers on the smaller beads.5
Step 5: cut a string that is 2.50 m long, fold it in half and tie the ends together. 6
Step 6: assemble the garland with numbers from 1 to 24 (from the left to the right).7
Step 7: tie the ends of the string so the beads can stay in place.8
Step 8: cut 24 stripes of paper by cutting 8 sheets of paper in 3 long stripes that are 21 cm x 10 cm.9
Step 9: roll the first paper stripe to make a sort of tube and secure it with a sticker or masking tape. Repeat for the 23 others.10
Step 10: pinch the tube on one end and punch a hole. Repeat on the 23 other tubes.11
Step 11: close the tubes with 24 strings that have various lengths (between 20 and 30 cm).12
Step 12: fill the tubes with treats and surprises. You can do your siblings' calendar, but let your parents do yours 🙂13
Step 13: staple the tube so that it looks like a tetrahedral.14
Step 14: you just need to attach each little pocket to the garland, one for each day.15
Step 15: cut the excess of string and now your garland is ready! 🙂
